MacTracker indicates that iMac14,1 would be an iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013).

That Mac supports Target Display Mode – but the requirements are very restrictive. The only supported video sources are other old Macs, running old versions of macOS. Like all other iMacs with Target Display Mode that have Thunderbolt, this one requires Thunderbolt input (not Mini DisplayPort input). If you are running Mojave or Catalina, you would need to downgrade to High Sierra or earlier to even get Target Display Mode to work with another old Mac.

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

Getting a Dell docking station will not relax these restrictions.

On top of that, we're talking about a 21.5" 1920x1080 screen. These days, standalone 24" 1920x1080 monitors are a dime a dozen. You can get ones with horrible color accuracy for as little as $80 – but even if you hold out and get a good one with an IPS panel and near-100% coverage of sRGB we're only talking $150. (And you may want something bigger and better, anyway, if the Dell laptop is capable of driving it.)
