Is it possible that iPadOS deleted itself after the update?

It started when I tried to update my ipad to 18.2 using my laptop cuz for some reason I couldn't using my wifi, when it downloaded it restarted and it showed the usually apple logo and progress bar. That's where it ends, it got stuck left it overnight didn't do anything, tried recovering using my laptop, didn't work. Finally I called support they said I should get it checked out at a repair store. I got a message from a apple certified repair shop that unfortunately my ipad does not have the licensed version of the software and that it's not covered by my guarantee. Is it possible that the system deleted itself or are they trying to get money out of me

They are trying to get money out of you.

While the iPadOS update will delete the current OS and install the new one, there is just no way to get an unlicensed version from iTunes / Finder that just cannot happen.

Also, Apple would never charge just to install an OS.

I would not pay them any money. Take it to an actual Apple Store, or try restoring the iPad if it won't restart .
