I looked in my ‘Contacts’ app, but did not see anywhere to select ‘my card’. An incorrect home zip code has been a problem; the home network for the Avalanche does not think that I’m in their service area. I get blacked out of games. A lot.

Ensure that you have created a contact card for yourself - just as you would for anyone else in your Contacts App. To select the contact will be shown under My Card, this is selected from iPad settings:
Settings > Apps > Contacts > My Info - select your [contact] name from the list
