Potential Apple Pay scam via text message

Here apparently is another one….

from “+1 (518) ***-****”

”An Apple Pay transaction of $156.65 at the Apple Store was detected. Call apple support now +1(888) 671-***, If this is unauthorized.”

I called the number 8******** before realizing this was a scam. There was not ringing nor answer. The call just dropped. Should I be concerned about anything other than likely getting more phishing texts?

Just received a text on 4/24/25:

An Apple Pay Transaction of $136.03 at the Apple Store was detected.If this is Incorrect Please Contact Support Team at 1-8**-8**-**56. Suspect a scam

Hello~ I must disagree. Giving these criminals any path forward here on these forums is not only a bad idea but as you will see in other posts where “phone” numbers and other contact information is removed thus causing more work for us and our diligent moderation team. As *MrHoffman* points out…we already know. I personally treat it all as the complete garbage that it is…

I just made a mistake and made a post about the Apple Pay 143.95$ scam and put to much info in it, it was removed immediately, I am sorry, on the other hand it’s nice to know the moderators are doing a great job! Thanks!

Doing a Google search does require that a real human has to take the time to answer your question. Given that people have a tendency to come here and ask the same question that has been asked and answered many times in the thread, it's understandable if people get a bit prickly sometimes.

Hello~ Reposting the scammers information here or anywhere else only perpetuates their scam. Apple can’t do a single thing about this. It’s just criminals being criminals. Why would you infer that we the elderly aren’t smart enough to figure this out for ourselves. We have plenty of intelligence and life long common sense. I find your remark offensive to be quite honest and find that it falls under ageism.
