Safari opens with scam message

We can’t open Safari on iMac without an immediate scam message “your computer is locked ….etc.”. The only way to get rid of this message is to force quit Safari.

All suggestions what to do include clicking on “Preferences” in Safari menu. I don’t have such menu line.

We can access sites that are on Launchpad with no interfering message.

I ran CleanMyMac and it did not discover any malware or viruses.

What to do?

iMac 24″, macOS 13.2

Safari always opens to the last page viewed. Hold the Shift key when launching Safari and it will prevent that from happening.

You are correct it is a scam message and the website you went to was paid to redirect you to the site.

Get rid of CleanMyMac, it will give you more problems and why it is referred to as BrickMyMac.
