So my new MBA is arriving Friday and I need to use Migration Assistant to transfer my data from my current iMac. Is it better to use an ethernet connection between the two computers or use wi-fi? It's been years since I've done this. Thanks!

All of the available methods work just fine: a cable into the storage via Target Disk Mode, Time Machine locally or NAS, and via network using Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Thunderbolt.
Which path is best for your case depends on details like your backup device speed and your Wi-Fi speed. A fast Wi-Fi outruns Gigabit Ethernet, for instance, and transferring from a slow HDD is going to be glacial.
Some folks are less fond of Wi-Fi for th4se usually because they’re in an area with interference. But then I’ve met Gigabit networks that were glacial too, due to cable faults and switch errors, too.
