Share iCloud Photos without edit

I don’t want to create a shared photo album on iCloud.

I just want to allow family members to view and download any photos in my full photo collection on iCloud. I don’t want them editing or commenting etc, just the facility to see what they like and download them to their own iPhone or Mac and hence to their own iCloud account. This should be easy right?

It is currently not possible.

  • You can share your photos in the Shared iCloud Photos Library, but this is for collaboration. the other subscribers can modify the shared photos.
  • Or you can share the photos in shared albums, then people can only view and download them. But the photos in shared albums or shared in an optimized resolution for sharing, and some metadata will be stripped.

As a work-around: Duplicate the photos before you move them to the shared library. This way you are keeping the image in the original quality, and only the shared copy can be modified.

Thanks. So in the case of the following:

"Or you can share the photos in shared albums, then people can only view and download them."

Is there a way of sharing all the albums in one go or would I have to go through them one by one? Oh, or perhaps create a new album "family sharing" and put all photos in it! What do you think before I try it and mess up my photo album?
