Damaged card? Your out of luck

Purchased a giftcard for my daughter, to give to her teacher. Card code damaged taking off sticker. Called support. Because I personally do not own apple products, i am unable to get new code or refund for $50 CARD I PURCHASED. Pictures sent in of damaged card with receipt. Was told by supervisor "Mike" that I am "out of luck". Called BACK and spoke to supervisor "Monte". Advised me to call back in 4 days for resolution. Called back 4 days later with same "out of luck" speech by supervisor "Zach". Receipt picture, damaged card picture sent, could be researched and they could see there is a $50 balance in card and i need the code or that balance transferred to a new card. Was told I need an account and Apple product to get that $50 back. This is a scam and will be stating my experience on review sites.

I can understand the frustration and awkwardness of giving a defective product as a gift. That’s not the image or customer experience Apple wants to present.

While probably not as expedient as a replacement gift card, please contact Apple CEO via email. I can’t share the email because the forum moderators will remove it. Google is your friend and you can easily find Mr. Cook’s email address.

In a few days you’ll receive a phone call or very nice letter from the Executive Office and a better resolution will be presented.

Please leave most of the drama out of the email. Be polite and professional and do not threaten people. Express your poor customer experience and the disappointment you and your daughter feel.

I’m retired now, but a former Apple Store manager and retired teacher. I sure wish a student had given me a $50 gift card back in the day. Please let me know how this turns out.

  • Recipient of the card is the one that would peel the Activation Sticker
  • Apple Gift Card is only for Apple purchases, just like all store branded Gift Cards
  • Gift Cards are not refundable, whether it was an Apple Gift Card or not
  • A Gift Card with unreadable code can still be redeemed to Apple Device with the documentation
  • Give the Purchase Receipt to the teacher and they can submit the document with pictures to redeem the card to their device and the problem is solved.
