Which is the best antivirus for MacOS?
I am thinking of installing BitDefender, is it really necessary to protect my MacOS? Or are their counter-indications?
MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.3

macOS already incorporates everything your Mac needs to protect from malware and other threats. Install nothing else.

Do not install third party apps that claim to protect, boost performance, etc. Such apps use system resources while providing no benefit. And they may cause problems.

The time you save will be much better spent enjoying your Mac 😊
And it would pale in comparison to the time you would need to invest undoing the damage those things are capable of. The aggregate amount of wasted time, money, productivity, and abject misery resulting from using them is surely incalculable.
Hello,
After using a PC for over 40 years, I retired and bought my first Macbook Air 3 years ago. So, I google searched which AV and security products were best for MacOS. And have been finding that none of them are really doing anything. Could you provide some insight as to how I completely uninstall all the stuff I installed: Malwarebytes, Wireshark, NordVPN without having to go to BestBuy?
Thanks,
Liz
Malwarebytes is probably the least of your concerns, but the developer's removal instructions are here, and super-easy:

Nord is rather clumsy in their recommendation, showing only this link back to Apple: how to uninstall software on MacOS
I cannot find an official support document on removing WireShark, but there is a post with user-submitted instructions on their user forums:

When looking to uninstall anything, avoid with extreme prejudice any "generic" uninstallers with high (i.e., paid) placement in the search engines. They are too often click-bait for giving you a dose of adware of other nasties.
...without having to go to BestBuy?
Is there not an Apple store near you?
Thank you. Neil, I'll look into it.
Thank you John, that convinced me, not to look for MacOS antivirus-software!
