Apple Maps question about the Speedometer feature

Now that Maps has a speedometer function that displays the posted speed and your current speed...why can't that be made available in all screens even without a current route running?

How to enable speed and speed limits in apple maps. Can Apple Maps provide speed information? Please don't say there are third-party apps that do that. Maps not showing speed limit Apple Maps will only show speed limit on map when navigating to a destination. I would like it to show all of the time that it is on.
