Which MacBook Pro model offers better longevity?

Because I have resources now that I likely will not have in 5 to 8 years I want to invest in a computer that will have very, very good longevity. I'm not a heavy user but I know that programs and apps demand more and more computing processing power and RAM with the years. (I'm sure my language about computing capacity is not precise but I just need a machine that will last 5 or even 10 years ahead -- with apple care all along).

Also wanting one that can be repaired (my understanding is that MBAirss are sealed cases)

Two choices:

The M4pro 24GB Macbook Pro (MX2T3LL/A)

The M3pro 18GB Macbook Pro (MRW13LL/A)

My Three questions:

  1. The M4pro computer is newer and I am always cautious about buying the newest computer before all the bugs/problems have been found and corrected.
  2. Have people worked with both these machines and noticed one is better, more solid, less glitchy? (My current 2019 Macbook Pro has been a lemon since purchase and an Apple support person confirmed that that model has been known to have issues.)
  3. Do people think the difference between 24 GB and 18GB RAM will make a big difference 5 or 8 years in the future?

Again, I'm not a gamer nor a graphics/video person. I tend to keep too many windows open and want to be able to write documents with many windows open and several monitors on, for easier citation and writing.

  1. It is wise to not immediately buy a "new to market" computer but the newer the model the longer its usefulness. Wait a couple of months if you are concerned about buying a newly released computer.
  2. I would get the computer with the most RAM and storage space I could afford. Application demands may increase over time so the more RAM and storage space you have the more future proof/longer lasting your computer.
  3. Yes.

And you should be aware of the length of time Apple support is available and when Apple determines a product is vintage/obsolete and no longer provides support: Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty - Apple Support

No matter what you decide on... I would seriously consider factoring in ie adding the AppleCare+ to the cost

This also allows you to extend that warranty after the 3 yrs expires...
