Outlook New - stopped working with iCloud

On about Feb 6th 2025 I could no longer send/receive emails on my Dell Windows 11 PC using new outlook. It had been working just fine for quite a long time. I have an iCloud.com email address and an iPhone. Mail works fine on the iPhone. Mail generally used to sync well between the two devices. I tried all the usual things, redo the iCloud app-specific password, reboot, re-install outlook new. Contacted uSoft support. They said Outlook New does not work with non-exchange servers like iCloud. I cannot find any corroboration of this anywhere. Seems weird, especially since account setup procedure specifically supports iCloud. They said I must install outlook classic. So, I did, and it works. I am wondering if there are any similar experiences, and a resolution.

The secret is to use your @icloud.com address when logging into iCloud (and not your e-mail associated). You can find out that address by logging into the web or looking at the list of e-mail addresses on your phone. It'll be one of them even if you don't use it. Login with _that_ and an app specific password.

Thank you for your reply. Oh, Interesting. A long time ago, in a land far away I created my Apple-ID account, because I got my first iPhone. So, I used a gmail.com email address, that became my Apple ID and not an iCloud email address. Later I created an alias (associated) icloud.com email address. Not sure why I went that route with the Gmail apple-id, but there it is. Not sure I can switch to just the iCloud.com email address as my apple ID and get rid of the gmail.com email address in my apple account. When configuring outlook (New) I cannot use the gmail.com email to configure my iCloud email. So that (iCloud.com) is what I have used. along with the app specific password. i think a "fix" would be to remove the gmail.com email address from my Apple-ID and make the iCloud.com email address primary.

On 10th Feb my icloud mail stopped synchronising in my Outlook new App on Windows 11 PC. I think it may have missed sychronisation between Fri 7th & Sunday 09th, but later corrected, before stopping again. I was curious when I read your post.

I tried deleting icloud mail account in my Outlook App, and re-installing it. I also uninstalled the Outlook (new) App, and re-installed Outlook (new) App, but that didn't resolve the synchronisation issue.

I also installed Outlook (classic) App alongside outlook (new) App. When I installed iCloud mail in Outlook (classic) App, it synchronised immediately. This provided a temporary workaround to the problem.

I know Outlook (new) App has been around for about a year, but I did read (helient.com) about some increased roll out of it starting January 2025 with a view to phase out Outlook (classic). Not sure whether this is unrelated/chance, specific to my laptop/account, but worth mentioning.

I am having the same issues on my desktop and laptop. Both worked fine until right around the same timeframe. I also can not send email from my .icloud email address via the outlook platform. Tried all the same, updates, uninstall/reinstall, update password etc. There is definitely a compatibility issue now and more instances of this are starting to pop up on various forums.

Hmmm, I don't get any error messages about not supported by iCloud. Not sure iCloud itself cares. Clearly there is an issue with Outlook New. Even my chat with Microsoft support said so, despite there being no official statement from Microsoft that says so, that I can find. So, for now I am using outlook classic. Waiting for the day it forces me to upgrade to outlook new. I have a link to download classic. Not sure if posting links is allowed here? If so and anyone wants it, let me know and I will post it. I tried to search for download classic.... you might think that would be easy :-)
