Legitimate refund requests denied

I started noticing that when I would purchase an in app purchase that occasionally it would charge me twice. It was at the same time including second that the purchase was made and it’s impossible to buy two items at the same time in the app. My requests were getting declined so I put in requests for every purchase to be refunded in order for the refund department to actually review my whole account. Denied anyway. I started using a loadable card. On 1/28/25 my YouTube premium was due but wasn’t able to load my card. I was still in that grace period on 2/6/25. I needed to download an app for work and since I had the premium due, I entered my checking account info. The $20.03 was taken out twice. My subscription that was on auto renew from 1/28-2/28/25 was renewed and then for some reason a new subscription starting 2/6/25-3/6/25 started. It’s a monthly subscription so it’s pretty clear that 2 identical subscriptions aren’t necessary. I wanted to keep the 1/28-2/28 since that’s the only one I actually signed up for but included both for the refund so the refund department could see the error. Nope… both denied..again. This one was so obvious that it baffles me that once again, my money is just gone and there’s nothing I can do about it. At what point is it theft? The advisors will advise to call your bank but the biggest irony in that is that Apple has so deeply insulated itself that most banks have no power to protect the consumers. My losses are up to almost $300 in total. If I could delete the wallet, I would. But they force a card on file just to download a free app. In app purchases from App Store downloads require Apple Pay/wallet. How is any of this legal.

Apple only manages subscriptions you see here:

The purchases that are managed by Apple are seen here:

View your purchase history for the App Store and other Apple media services - Apple Support

Any other charge you see is directly with the developer and you will need to cancel that subscription with them. It is entirely possible to have 2 subscriptions with one managed by Apple and the other directly with the Developer. Apple has no idea if you have another subscription with the developer, only the developer would know that. YouTube is a perfect example where you can subscribe with an in-app purchase and directly with YouTube. You would need to cancel one of them.

If a previous subscription charge failed to process due to lack of funds, it certainly is possible to see that previous charge and the current subscription charge when a payment method is added. You have to cancel the subscription to avoid charges, they don't go away simply by not paying them.

Yes you will need a valid payment method if you wish to use the App Store.

Unless it’s completely relatable to someone who has the same problem. Then perhaps voices might be heard. It’s insane how they get away with it. It needs a solution regardless.

Need a solution to what?

Cancelling subscriptions is your responsibility. If they are managed by Apple, you can easily cancel them with the link provided. If they are made directly with the developer, then you have to cancel with them and they are not managed by Apple.

If you want to use the App Store, you are most likely going to need to have a payment method, it is a Store. In what world do you think a developer is going to spend their own time and money to develop and continue to update those apps without any means to generate income. The free download is not charged to you, but the in-app purchases are there as a way to provide income to the developer if you do find their efforts useful and choose one of those options.

Other times, developers will offer a free trial subscription, to test out their service first. This has to be cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial period ends to avoid any charges. Just because there is no money on the payment method for the charge to process does not mean that the subscription just goes away and you still owe that money. That is true for any service such at Netflix, HBO, YouTube, or any of the others.

In most cases all transactions in the App Store are final. At times, Apple may provide a compassionate refund, but it should never be expected. Any purchase requires you to double click the side button with the amount showing on the screen, followed by verification with FaceID/Touch ID or Passcode, so it is not something that can be done by accident.

I DIDNT renew a duplicate subscription!!!! It was something that happened without my input!!! What don’t you understand!! I am being charged twice randomly but chronically!!! I’m not participating in double charging myself! And I’ve contacted the game and YouTube and they said it’s on the Apple end!!! They are not acknowledging the glitch or correcting anything. I can’t be the only Apple user this has happened to. Maybe just let someone else reply.
