Mac OS Ventura change external HDD file system without losing data

Hello, I have an external HDD with FAT32 (max file size = 4GB), but I want to change to APFS or NTFS (both have larger max file size). Is there a way to format the hdd without losing all the data or transfer them to another hdd?

Thanks

Reformatting is DESTRUCTIVE ‼️

You backup your data to somewhere else, reformat, restore your data.

If the drive is going to be used only on the Mac, then either APFS or Mac OS Extended (journaled).

If using on both Mac and Windows, then exFAT
