Using a live listen with hearing loss. Turning off the microphone to prevent echo.

I find that live listen in conjunction with my AirPods or my AirPods, Max Pro, is very good way to understand what my wife is saying. Unfortunately, the echo or the time delay is so great that it’s very difficult to reply. It would seem to me, it would be easy with the right software to merely turn off the microphone in the AirPods Max or the iPhone 15 to solve this problem. Is that a possibility?

Seems you may be hearing the person speaking in your AirPods as well as in the environment ?

Am no expert in this area: Just wondering whether Apple Support's online articles (links below) can help.

Eg: If you haven't yet tried the different listening "modes"

See: Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency modes for AirPods - Apple Support to help with microphone

Also: you can: Customize headphone audio levels on your iPhone.:

Eg: You can try "Conversation Boost" on your AirPods Max
