Google account page pops up to enter password in settings.

Received a pop up to reenter my password for my gmail for my apple mail app. When I go to settings and tap the password field to enter my password, the google accounts page pops up to enter it there. In the past I only had to type in my password in the field in my settings. This is strange, I have never seem this before. is this new or should I be concerned? What should I do if it’s  a concern?
