Apple Watch and iPhone - how to stop synchronized alarm clock

There have been numerous discussions over Apple watch remote connection to the phone. When the phone attempts to wake you in the morning, it transfers to the watch - which is quiet, somewhat ineffective, & super easy to accidentally dismiss. It's worse if you wear your watch upside down (military style) as touching your watch to your body skin immediately turns it off. For me, my Apple watch is only a week old and I discovered this in the worse way (failed to get up in time for work).

I have found a work-around that works. I have other alarms on my phone to take medicines; one that occurs every night at 8:00PM and another that occurs at noon every Sunday. I noticed that "Other" alarms (those alarms outside of "Sleep | Wake up") do NOT remote to my watch - consistently.

All of the other solutions I read have failed to work. This one actually works.

The solution is to:

  1. Go to Alarms
  2. Create a new "Other" alarm, for each weekday/weekend, provide a time & alarm sound
    1. Be sure it is outside of "Sleep | wake-up" section
  3. It will wake you without passing control to the watch.

You could also set the alarms on the watch itself if you want only on the watch.

And you can go to iPhone, Watch app, My Watch tab, clock and turn off Push Alerts from iPhone to make them only on the iphone.

I don't wear the watch at night every night because of the possible effects on my skin. I use Night Stand (aka bedside mode in UK) and set all alarms on the watch. Never fails to wake me up.
