Apple Mail app not updating from unread to read emails on iPhone

After the iOS 18.3 update, the built in email app will not show as a read email until the email app is shut down and then entering back in again. The refreshing by pulling down no longer works. Also after the 18.3.1 update the problem still persists. I know that Outlook could be installed, but on iPhone for notifications I found the built in app has worked pretty good so far for me until now. Any ideas?

I also have 18.3 update and it has completely screwed up all my email accounts. From my list of all email accounts it will say it's updated on the bottom, but there is no new email when I go to open that account. Yet on my desktop or laptop I see 20 new emails. I tried deleting the email accounts then reinstalling them. This does not work at all. Today I discovered that my primary mail is getting routed to the other mailboxes like "promotional" or "transactions". This is unacceptable. In the past two days I have lost precious time sensitive emails to this update deciding what should have been primary emails were sent to promotional aka Junk mail.

So now what?

So a day after this post, the built in email started updating to read when selected. I did not reboot or anything else.

click the 3 dots at top right and select "List View". This did it for me.

I had the very same problem after the recent update, even did a hard reset and nothing changed. just followed your instructions and it worked ! thank you
