Apple TV doesn't seem to pair with new Yamaha RX V4A

is my apple tv looking for a previous receiver when it starts up? for some reason it doesn't show up when paired with new Yamaha RX V4A receiver. I have an HDMI cable from the eARC on the receiver to the eARC on the TV and the Apple TV and the Bluray are both hooked up with HDMI cables to the receiver. any help is appreciated.

The Apple TV box doesn’t need “pairing” with an AV receiver when connected over HDMI.

Users are supposed to set Apple TV’s Audio Output to “TV speakers”, and also set the TV to output any audio to the receiver. Then the receiver uses the audio signal over HDMI.

Users with such fine equipment should not set the receiver as (temporary!) Audio Output on the Apple TV box, as that tries to connect via AirPlay or Bluetooth in stereo. The HDMI option as described above has much higher quality and multichannel.
