macOS 15.3 Update Causing Screen Flickering and High Memory Usage on iMac M1

After updating to macOS 15.3 on January 28th, I started experiencing a screen flickering issue on my iMac M1. Reinstalling macOS did not fix the problem, but a clean reinstall temporarily resolved it. However, the flickering returned after some time.

I also noticed that TGOnDeviceInferenceProviderService and mediaanalysisd are now consuming significantly more memory in Activity Monitor since macOS 15. Before this update, their memory usage was much lower, and they were not among the top processes. My usage mainly involves general tasks with occasional light editing, but I haven’t done any editing in the past four months, making this spike in resource usage even more unusual.

Additionally, I observed that:

  • The screen flickering stops after waking the iMac from sleep mode, but it returns after approximately two hours.

  • A tiny, long black line has appeared at the top-right of the screen since the flickering started.

  • The iMac’s screen and back become unusually hot during flickering, which wasn’t the case before the update.

Given that this issue started after the macOS 15.3 update and considering the increased memory usage of certain processes, I suspect that Apple Intelligence features introduced in macOS 15 might be affecting the GPU, leading to these flickering issues.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems? Any potential fixes?

I am facing the same problem. Now there's a permanent dead line on the screen.

After further observation, I believe I may have misunderstood the issue with the GPU. Since this problem started after the macOS 15.3 update and worsens as the screen heats up, it seems the initial bug issues may have caused panel damage or burn-in. The screen remains stable at normal temperatures but begins flickering after about two hours of use.

I noticed that mediaanalysisd suddenly started using high memory, causing the system to heat up and the screen to flicker. I manually quit mediaanalysisd and restarted the iMac, and everything returned to normal. However, after about two hours of use, the flickering started again, even though mediaanalysisd was not using high memory. This suggests that the initial screen flickering on macOS 15.3 may have caused panel damage or burn-in since the issue persists independently of mediaanalysisd's activity.
