How do I turn off Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.3.1 when 'Apple Intelligence & Siri' option is missing?

Hi all,

I recently updated to iOS 18.3.1 on my iPhone 14. After the update, Apple Intelligence had automatically been turned on. That's irritating, but a well-known issue. My problem is that I cannot follow the straightforward steps to turn the feature off. If I go Settings> and look for "Apple Intelligence & Siri," there's nothing there. Just Siri. But Apple Intelligence features are now active on my Mail, and if I search for "Apple Intelligence" I can see a ton of buried menu items related to ChatGPT, which I absolutely do not want to use. I cannot tell whether these are currently active, but I hope not.

I have tried restarting the phone off 3 times, but that does not solve the problem.

How do I get the "Apple Intelligence & Siri" menu item back so I can turn it off?

Thank you. I recalled that it was an option I had to turn off in 18.2, but maybe that was a fever dream. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

You are most welcome. And do not worry, you are not wasting anyone’s time here. We have time to give which is why we volunteer it and our expertise here to help others, that is what we enjoy doing.

Post a screenshot of what you are seeing in Mail.

On the iPhone 14, you will not have the Apple Intelligence setting and it will not be on. Using the search in settings, you will see options not available on your device, because they are part of iOS, but you will not be able to navigate to them. This has previously been reported with settings not related to AI too and no information has been provided on whether that has been fixed in the iOS 18.4 beta. We are unable to discuss features of any beta software here.

I am not able to use my message app any longer! I’ve got the 14Pro.

What happens when you try? The setting to turn on/off iMessage is at Settings > Messages > iMessage, but even with it off you would still be able to send and receive SMS Messages.
