So I bought an AirTag to put on my keys. I pulled the plastic tag set it next to my phone woke up my phone checked my Bluetooth. Everything seemed fine, but nothing happened. Do I have to change the battery on a brand new Apple AirTag? From everybody else’s comments, it doesn’t seem like they worked very well. Ideas?

Did you purchase this AirTag directly from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller? ... or got it from another third-party source?
When you first pulled the plastic tag, did the AirTag chime? The fact that when you placed it near your iPhone that the phone recognized it would indicate that the tag did power up and was transmitting a Bluetooth signal.
Are you saying that that is as far as the setup process has proceeded to?

Ok, then it may be possible that it is defective. You can certainly try using a replacement battery, but if that doesn't work, you have 14 days from the purchase date, to return them for either a full refund or a replacement.
I ordered it from Apple. On online I pulled the little battery tab, but there was no chime and it never powered up. It never did anything.
