Sudden Rapid Decline in Mac Battery Health: 100% to 96% in One Week

My Mac’s battery health stayed at 100% for over a year and a half with careful use. However, within the past week, it dropped from 100% to 96% despite no changes in my usage patterns. I'm concerned about this sudden and rapid decrease. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and should I be worried?

After using my Mac for about a year and a half, my battery health remained at 100%, as I’ve been careful not to overuse it or leave it idle for extended periods. However, just last week, I noticed it dropped to 99%, and within a week, it plummeted to 96%. Given my consistent usage habits, this sudden decline in battery health is alarming and concerning. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Should I be worried about the rapid decrease?

Apple Batteries are considered Consumable Products.

Over time it will degrade to a point where it needs to be replaced.

The usage is normal as the battery capacity will go up and down all the time and never stay always at 100%.

Apple Batteries are rated for 1000 Full Battery Cycles and / or 80% Capacity

The worst enemy of batteries are excessive heat or excessive cold for prolonged periods of time

  • Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
  • Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–25° to 45° C)
