iPhone 14 Pro Max battery barely charges after updating to iOS 18.3.1

I plug my phone in and sometimes it will charge and make it to 60% before it seems like it stops charging. Other times it won’t go above 1%. If it does seem to charge correctly the battery doesn’t last 1/2 as long as it used to. This is on a 14 Pro Max that is brand new.

Same. I can't even update it again because it has to be at 20% and it's been stuck at 15% for an hour. I have a 15 Pro Max.

This seems to be caching on.

Question is: “Just how many people have actually reported this to Apple?

So, Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Troubleshooting Charging Issues After an Update:

A. Update your iPhone:

Not sure if it will fix this, but update to iOS18.3.1. It's worth a go --and you should back up your iPhone to a computer prior to installing an update, whatsoever. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from, should anything go wrong afterwards.

Troubleshooting iPhone Charge:

Visit the following links for tips on troubleshooting this...

I. Try what is on this Link: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't Turn on or is Frozen - Apple Support

II. View the Battery Health:

Apple recommends you get a new battery, once the Battery Health reaches 80% or lower. When the Battery Health is 80% or lower, it is time for a new battery.

  1. Go To: Settings
  2. Tap: Battery
  3. Tap: Battery Health
  4. View: [the percentage]
  5. Is it 80% or less?  If so, it is time for a new battery.

III. Perform a Restart:

Try Force Restarting your iPhone. Save any information that need be. Then perform the restart.

Overheating Power Charging After an Update:

I am not having any of these issues. Being this is causing overheating in the cables and charging bricks, this makes it a security risk. So, report this issue to Apple, just like I recommend in regards to your original post.

I had a charging issue too where it would not go above 70% after updating to iOS 18.3.1. I chatted with support and ended up doing a reset while charging and that seems to have fixed it. So, with your phone plugged in, press volume up quickly, volume down quickly, then press and hold the side button until the apple logo shows up.

Here as OP, the day following the creation of this thread, I had my BRAND NEW, battery health 100% 14 Pro Max plugged into an Apple brand lightning cord and Apple brand wall plug rated at 18w and the cord, which was also brand new, blew a fuse on the end where it plugs into the phone. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the phone, but smoke did come from the cord itself. I updated to 18.3.1 and it seems to be okay now. Anyone else have cables go **POP** and start smoking?

Doing a bug report will not fix this issue in a timely manner. Contact support via iMessage and try restarting your phone while charging. This is what fixed it for me.

Report your Findings to Apple:

Well the fix might just come about when you submit it. So, give feedback back if you’d like. As for the fix, you should report that to Apple.
