Can I use two Apple Pencils with one iPad Air?

I found a similar question, but I'm in a slightly different situation. I have one iPad and I'd love to have one pencil at home and one at the office. So I purchased a second pencil, both are 2.0. But I cannot get the new pencil connected. Can I connect two pencils to one iPad?

iPad: iPad Air (4th gen)

Version: iPadOS 18.3

Pencils: both are 2nd gen

Apple Pencil 2nd gen does not work with iPad Air 13 inches M2? Is there no way to use my old Apple Pencil on my new iPad Pro? I just bought a new iPad Pro, 6th get, and would love to use my old Apple Pencil. I really don't want to spend another $129 for a 2nd gen pencil when I have a perfectly good gen 1. Is it impossible to pair the two? I tried but it said "This device is not supported" or something similar.
