Driving mode in car with complete silence not 3 ringtones then silence

Having accepted the most recent iPhone (feb 2025) iOS update from apple i now can’t silence my phone in driving mode. It used to be totally silenced when in CarPlay but it now allows 3rings and then goes into silence. I am not wanting any distractions so can’t figure out how to select complete silence? Any step by step instructions gratefully received.

iPhone SE, iOS 18

If an iPhone rings three times and then goes silent, it could be due to several factors, including:

  1. Carrier Call Forwarding or Voicemail Settings: Some carriers send calls to voicemail after a few rings. If voicemail is set up, the call may ring three times and then be silenced as it's forwarded.
  2. Bluetooth or Connected Device Issue: If your iPhone is connected to a Bluetooth device (e.g., AirPods, a car stereo), the ring may switch to the device, making it seem like the phone stopped ringing.

If this happens consistently, try checking your Focus settings, Bluetooth connections, and carrier voicemail settings to see if any of these apply.

The Driving Focus mode on an iPhone silences calls, notifications, and texts regardless of whether CarPlay is connected. It is designed to minimize distractions while driving and can be activated manually, automatically when motion is detected, or when connected to a car's Bluetooth system.

Even if you don’t have a car with CarPlay (wired or wireless), Driving Focus can still be enabled and function the same way. You can customize its behavior in Settings → Focus → Driving, where you can allow certain contacts or apps to bypass the silence if needed.

Thank you. Driving mode was working as you said with no contacts are allowed to call but since the most recent update from apple I now have 3 rings and then silence with a message saying the caller has been informed you are driving. This is a change from how it used to work and I can’t figure out why? I don’t want the first 3 rings or the message. I have disabled notifications whilst CarPlay on. Any more ideas welcomed
