Normally the Radio menu on Apple Music includes my recents. Suddenly the recents menu is gone, and all my stations along with it. Is Apple trying to kill local radio in favor of its Mickey Mouse algorithm DJs?

Did you try to Search it in Music? The stations seem to be still there but it doesn’t keep them for us!
Try the App for KKJZ / KJazz based in Long Beach for awesome straight-ahead jazz and other specials like weekend mornings (7am - 10am PT)
As a workaround find the station you want to save then select share station to a new note. You can add other stations to your note and the links will open the stations in Apple Music. Or just switch to the Radio Garden app which is better for radio listening.
It happens with live broadcast stations (international in my case). I'm thinking the station I listen to (jazzfm.com) doesn't normally provide listening access to the U.S. there may be a search algo that Apple Music uses to find stations, it finds that station and eventually the station nixes it... Once it's gone, there's no appearance in recently played stations.
Apple engineers have stuck their heads in their back pockets on this one: THE APPLE REARRANGEMENT OF "RADIO" OPTION MEANT NO HOMEPOD MUSIC PLAYED, AND I OVERSLEPT AND MISSED AN APPOINTMENT! YES, I AM YELLING.
(I wake to an Apple radio station so that I don't associate any artist or playlist with the experience of a morning alarm.)
(1) When Music moved radio stations from the Music options to the bottom menu, organized under the "Radio” icon, the INTERNAL LINK WAS BROKEN for using the station for a morning alarm on the HomePod.
(2) Now, after much searching to fix the problem, I discovered that IT NOW TAKES 10 STEPS TO SET A RADIO STATION AS AN ALARM!
After the usual first 5 (Speaker > Alarm > Play Music > Choose Media > Apple Music), you now need 5 NEW STEPS (once you figure out to go to 'New'):
New > Browse Genre > Jazz > Stations > station of choice
I hope that Apple makes the UI user-friendly. (Appropriate Apple Feedback has been sent both to Apple Music and to HomePod.)

Apple Support is not here in this user-to-user forum. If you want to discuss the matter with Apple Support, use the "Support" link at the bottom left of every page of this forum.
Also, you cannot "search" radio stations anymore. And the general "search" does not yield radio stations that I know exist, because they do show up under "recently played" (now annoyingly located only on the home button).
Also on a computer, I don't know where to go for the equivalent of the "home" button.
For example BBC World Service still shows up (and plays) under "recently played" but when I search for it I cannot find it.
Really annoying changes!

To be clear, these are locally operated FM stations I regularly listen to - with real live DJs! And they comprise most of my workday listening. If Apple nixed this feature, I don't have much reason to stay on with their app.
Apple please add the recent radio stations back. I use this feature every morning and have had to manually go search and create stations daily. I’m ready to switch to a different app for my daily gym mix.
Why did they move it to the home screen and not keep it on the radio? I use an Ipod (yes, I know, stop laughing) for my work and there is no home screen on that in the music app.
Please stop 'fixing' things that are not broken! Please put my radio station back under the radio button!

What they did is extremely frustrating. Apple seems to be far removed from the day of “it just works”.
i listen to personal “station” in the car. I don’t want to search for them I don’t want to use Siri.
I’ve already reluctantly moved back to Pandora for stations. Apple took a major step backwards.
