How do I remove duplicate photos and screenshots from multiple iCloud files?

Only want my photos and screenshots in 1 iCloud file without downloading some sketchy app. (They’re all sketchy to me as I don’t know what they’re truly doing nor why….just whatever they say on my screen I have to accept as rejecting may mess them up.)

Please advise and thank you much!

Camelot seems to think that you have a Mac, but your signature indicates you have an iPad. And only an iPhone can use iOS 18.3.1, so all this is pretty confusing. Macs and iPads have helpful sidebars in Photos, since they have more screen room.

For an iPhone, the Duplicates view is near the very bottom of the Photos screen:

And, by the way, "Customize & Reorder" allows you to move these sections around, so if you move Utilities, remember where you put it!

There are other apps that will search for duplicates, but many of them are, in fact, sketchy-- and it's hard to know which ones. PhotoSweeper is one I've used on the Mac with good results. But check out the one that's already in Photos on your phone.

You say you want iCloud Photos-- is that right? iCloud Photos copies all your pictures to iCloud.com so that you can see them with a web browser on any computer. It also allows you to save space on your phone. You turn it on in Settings>AppleID>iCloud. But you should buy space there, first-- it's $3/month for 200 GB.

They are not two different things.

The Library contains all the photos you have.

'Recents' is more like a lookup - 'Look in the Library and find me all the photos that are less than 30 days old".

It is not a COPY of those pictures in the library, it's a dynamic reference to the existing images.

In other words, "Recents' doesn't take up any additional space, and it's not a second copy of the picture themselves.

You're getting lots of help!

iCloud is not really about storing stuff, it's about synchronizing stuff. I have a Mac, and iPad, and an iPhone, and my pictures are the same on all three, because if I add a picture to my Mac, it'c copied to iCloud Photos and then copied to the other devices. This also means that if I accidentally delete a picture on my phone, it gets deleted everywhere else. That's why I keep a backup on an external drive-- in case I screw up!

If that's not what you want to do, you may want to use other storage places instead of iCloud.com.

Knowledge is awesome! (For clarification I have an iPad Pro 11.) Multitasking now but screenshot and will try.

Have the free iCloud: The Library and Recents being almost identical has eaten up too much memory to backup device. Sort through them regularly but deleting in a file removes it from the other and vice versa.

Know there’s no Duplicates option else I’d’ve went there 1st but appreciate your thoroughness and hopefully this does it. Thank you muchly. ;-)
