How can I connect MacBook Air to TV using HDMI?

I have a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable, but the TV says I am not connect or resolution not support. What setting do I need to change?

MacBook Air M2 not connecting to TV via HDMI hub I am trying to connect my MacBook Air (M2 2022) running Sonoma 14.7.7 to my TV via HDMI. I am using a Vivitar hub with HDMI to USB C to connect to my MacBook Air. When I check the displays settings my Mac, I can see both the Built in Display (my Mac) and the tv display icons. I have arranged them with the Mac icon on top of the TV icon which I thought would mirror the Mac display to my TV. But I am not getting a signal to the TV. I checked my HDMI settings and those are correct. I have restarted my MacBook and granted permission to the Vivitar hub. What else should I be doing?
