How to resolve 'NO SIM' and SOS mode issue on iPhone?

My phone says that there is "NO SIM" and is in SOS mode. I've tried restarting it, and toggled airplane mode. The bill is paid, and other phones in the house are working fine. Any other suggestions on how to fix this?
