Why is text not sticking to tracked area in FCPx?

Hi!

I've used the tracking feature a little bit and have gotten some nice results. However, today when trying to track a house on the ground - which tracks just fine - the text ("Jarlsberg flyplass") does not stick to this tracked area. Why? The text seems to wander to the right, closer and closer to the tracked area. See attached video.

1) Why does the text not stay still in relation to the area tracked?

2) Can I change the "anchor point" in the text box that sticks to the tracked area? E.g. if I want the first, middle or the last letter in the text box to anchor to the tracked area?

Updated FCPx

I've tried different methods of tracking (point cloud, machine learning, automatic etc.) with the same result.

Timeline: 4k 25 fps. Video from Osmo Action 4.

Look at the last part of the text, it is closing in on the tracked area (the house) when playing forward. I just want it to "stick" to the ground. In other words, I want it to stay X cm away from the house and this distance should stay fixed.

Thanks!

As seen in the video the tracking is good, it tracks the object (the house) perfectly.

In the YouTube video, you can see the tracker jumping up and away from the house in seven different places. I think the title is working correctly because it matches the movement of the tracker. Since it is necessary to actually check the tracking data, please share it in a library (including media) or in XML.

which settings do you want me to share?

I've already written about it many times.

Thanks for the reply.

The tracked area is outside the propeller, so I don't see how that should affect it. And again, the tracked area tracks the house perfectly and does not move, it is just the text that moves.

I did however try tracking something further away from the propeller. Again, the tracked area tracks perfectly, but the achored text moves rightwards...

Maybe I misunderstand you, but I believe this just repositions the textbox on the screen, it does not change the anchor point.

What is the default position of the anchor point when "anchoring" an objekt to a tracked area? Is it the center point within the textbox that anchors to the center of the tracked area? Or is the outer points e.g the four corners in a textbox each anchored to the four corners of the tracked area, thereby making it possible to scale and transform the textbox if the tracked area changes form?

My question was about this, how to change where the anchor point is / points are.

1) Why does the text not stay still in relation to the area tracked?

I think this is because the analyzed tracking data is not manually corrected. Have you checked frame by frame to make sure the tracker is moving on the ideal trajectory? Please learn how to modify tracking data. If there is anything you don't understand, please ask specific questions.

Correction of tracking data. Control the tracker

2) Can I change the "anchor point" in the text box that sticks to the tracked area?

Please correct the tracking data, not the title.

As seen in the video the tracking is good, it tracks the object (the house) perfectly. It is the text box that moves. It’s like it starts 100 pixels to the left of the tracked area, and can end up almost over the tracked area. The track is good, but the text box does not follow.

I have a different project where tracking works fine and everything behaves as intended. I could try finding a different scene and track to see if it works then.

Thank you for the reply!

Maybe I am misunderstanding how it works, but the way I see it, the track works fine. Yes, it jumps for a frame or so a few times and the textbox correctly follows. What I find weird is that the textbox seems to slowly move rightwards while the tracked area stays still (in relation to the house, and thus the ground). The right edge of the textbox starts out being lets say two centimeters away from the house/tracked area, and ends up being less than 1 centimetre away, thus it has moved toward the red tracked area. It should stay still, staying 2 cm away all the time! At least thats how I want it to behave.

Here is another example. Again it is not behaving the way I want it to behave. And again, maybe it is just me not understanding how this works. As seen in this example, the tracked area seems to track the trees just fine, not moving around. The textboox however (linked to the trace), suddenly starts moving upwards in relation to the ground even though the tracked are is not moving upwards in relation to the ground. Why? https://youtu.be/3gC3oI6P1io

I didnt quite understand your request. Again, I see no problem with the track itself, it seems to be a problem with making the textbox anchor or stick to the tracked area.

Here is a different example of when it does work. I've tracked the bolt on the fence, and the textbox perfectly tracks.

And again, this might definitely be me misunderstanding how this is supposed to work. What I don't get is that in the first example, the textbox does not stick to the tracked area (the house). The tracked area is fine and tracks the house well enough. The text however does not replicate the movement of the tracked area. In the example attaced in this post, the textbox does match the tracked area and sticks to it the way I believe it should.

The tracked area is fine and tracks the house well enough.

The tracker you showed on YouTube is not tracking the house. Obviously, the tracker's trajectory is deviated from the house in 7 places. The reason why the title moves left and right cannot be understood unless you look at the data directly.

Why do you refuse to share? It is much more efficient to upload and share data than to watch YouTube over and over again.

Sorry for late reply, I've had problems with this forum, unable to log in or reply when trying to post over the last days. Problems again today, but now it seems to work (restarted Mac, weird...).

Same clip, different track, shows same behaviour where it slowly moves rightwards (link).

Library is uploaded to Dropbox (link).

To be clear, I understand why the tracked text (circle) is "jumping" if the track is jumping. What I need help with is understanding why the tracked circle creeps rightwards in relation to the tracked area. The center of the tracked area (over the house) is staying put, not moving in relation to the house/ground. But the text that is coupled to the tracked area is creeping right.

I am not used to working with XML-files (don't even know what they are used for)

Select the project in the FCP browser: Menu: File: Export XML: XML version: Previous version →Upload the XML file and original media.

XML stands for "Extensible Markup Language". A language file for converting project contents into data and easily exchanging them. *Try searching with XML.
