Error 'invalid address' unable to send emails on my iPhone 14

My husbands iPhone 14 has all of a sudden decided it cannot send emails, although it continues to receive them. Any email he sends is returned with the message “invalid address”. These emails are going to addresses he has been using many times over a long period of time. What could be wrong?
