Calculator on iOS/iPadOS Copies All Large Numbers with Scientific Notation instead of Decimal
Issue:
When in Basic Calculator mode (or Scientific Calculator mode, but expected) and using the calculator to compute a large value in the millions, then copying the large number to clipboard causes the number to be copied in Scientific Notation. This is useless for accounting ($$) purposes since standard accounting practices do not utilize scientific notation.
Example: Add $1,234,567.89 and $987,654.32 to get the result of $2,222,222.21 and then copy that to the clipboard. You will get “2.22222e6“ regardless of being on Basic calculator mode.
I have both a screenshot and a video showing the issue. Both iOS and iPadOS are on 18.3.1 (I did the video on the iPad obviously) but this has been occurring since the release of iOS/iPadOS 18 on all iPhones and iPads that I have tested on.
As a side note, there are no settings within the Calculator or within System Settings to modify this behavior.
Expectations:
When in Basic or Converter Calculator modes, if I copy a decimal number out, it should be the full decimal number. If I want the Scientific Notation of the number copied, I would expect being in the Scientific Calculator mode would provide that.
