I replaced the Steinberg Cl1 audio interface with a Mackie ProFX6v mixer which doubles as an audio interface. I've plugged in a Shure SM58. The top Vu Meter works but there's nothing happening with the Vu Meter to the side of the track.

I'm using Yamaha 5" studio monitors. When I tap the face of the mic, the Vu Meter at the top reacts.

When I hit the red icon to record, I get nothing other than the moving red bar.

I think I have a different version of GB.

I have a red circle icon beside the Forward, Stop, Rewind etc. icons. When I hit it, it starts the recording (red band) but nothing is actually recording.

I'll pause for now. I'll reengage tomorrow. Thanks, Keith, for your help. I'll dig into the Privacy Settings to see whether or not that's the problem.

Have a good evening.

Jim

Hi, Keith,

I figured it out. When I tapped on the mic, I could hear it coming through the Yamaha studio monitors. When I hit the red icon or R, and tapped, the recording did not pick it up; I couldn't hear it on the playback. Then I started to speak loudly in to mic while recording. I could hear my voice in the playback. I concluded that there was a mic problem.

Just now, I went into System prefences - Sounds. I checked the microphone setting and put it on USB.

Problem solved.

I've made a note of it for future reference.

I'm going to bookmark this site for future reference.

Thanks for your help. It help me familiarize myself with the GB settings.

Cheers,

Jim
