Great, glad you got it sorted out.
I replaced the Steinberg Cl1 audio interface with a Mackie ProFX6v mixer which doubles as an audio interface. I've plugged in a Shure SM58. The top Vu Meter works but there's nothing happening with the Vu Meter to the side of the track.
I'm using Yamaha 5" studio monitors. When I tap the face of the mic, the Vu Meter at the top reacts.
When I hit the red icon to record, I get nothing other than the moving red bar.
Thanks for replying.
In thre input pop-up menu, I've set the microphone for 2ProFX.
I then hit the red Record icon.
Same thing ; the vertical line moves and the red recording bar is there but not recording any sound when I tap on the face of the mic.
I think I have a different version of GB.
I have a red circle icon beside the Forward, Stop, Rewind etc. icons. When I hit it, it starts the recording (red band) but nothing is actually recording.
I'll pause for now. I'll reengage tomorrow. Thanks, Keith, for your help. I'll dig into the Privacy Settings to see whether or not that's the problem.
Have a good evening.
Jim
Hi, Keith,
I figured it out. When I tapped on the mic, I could hear it coming through the Yamaha studio monitors. When I hit the red icon or R, and tapped, the recording did not pick it up; I couldn't hear it on the playback. Then I started to speak loudly in to mic while recording. I could hear my voice in the playback. I concluded that there was a mic problem.
Just now, I went into System prefences - Sounds. I checked the microphone setting and put it on USB.
Problem solved.
I've made a note of it for future reference.
I'm going to bookmark this site for future reference.
Thanks for your help. It help me familiarize myself with the GB settings.
Cheers,
Jim
The vu meters are inside the volume control:
Record to an audio track in GarageBand on Mac - Apple Support
Did you enable recording on the track?
Did you set the input source?
Before recording audio in GarageBand on Mac - Apple Support
I suggest you go through the guide step by step.
Here is how to set the privacy setting on the microphone:
Control access to the microphone on Mac - Apple Support
Leonie comes through again:
Garageband simply not recording - Apple Community
Try Track > Track header > Show Record enable.
Here'a photo
Do you have recording enabled on the track?
do you see the vu meters jumping before you record?
I don't see the vu metrrs
I've uninstalled GB and just reinstalled it again. I'll look for the Vu Meters and see what happens. Thanks
Jim
Have you record enabled the track?
Have you given the interface the proper permissions in the privacy settings?
Nort sure what you mean by "recording enabled".
Yes, I see the Vu meters.
