external DVD DRIVE for accessing old VIDEO-TS files

About 15 years ago I converted old VHS family home movies to VIDEO-TS files on cheap no brand dvds when I was working as an editor at a company with the correct equipment.

My 2009 iMac with cd slot finally died so I must buy an external DVD DRIVE for my newer iMac because I want to convert the VIDEO-TS files to mp4s.

Is an Apple usb SuperDrive the best option since I created these VIDEO-TS files 15 or more years ago?

Thanks

Melanie

Not so much about the drive itself, but more so about the software to convert the DVDs.

Pretty much any DVD drive out there should work with a Mac and the DVDs you created.

What you did was create standard set top player DVDs (which is what the Video-TS format is for). While the built in DVD player app on any Mac should be able to read these DVDs and play back the video, you will need another app to convert them to something usable like mp4s.

Look at something like Handbrake.
