warning message: wifi network unsafe to join in Lockdown mode
I got a new router from Gl-inet and I get a warning pop-up message that says, "This network may be unsafe to join in Lockdown mode". What does this mean?
iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 18

Found it. The WiFi was WPA/WPA2-PSK.
Either WPA, or WPA2-TKIP, will cause issues. WPA2-AES, WPA2/WPA3 transitional, and WPA3 are all currently considered secure by Apple. WPA3 also adds 6 GHz, where that’s available.
Lockdown Mode is an additional and optional security setting, and blocks potentially-problematic configurations.
If someone else is having this problem choose WPA2/WPA3
WPA2/WPA3 transitional is a good compromise for many folks, yes.
Strange to have WPA as standard on a new router no?
The Wi-Fi vendor (or the ISP) picked a default that avoids support calls, though particularly for non-Apple clients.
I’ve not encountered GL-iNet gear.
And Apple please could you tell why a network is insecure and not just say it’s insecure without a explanation.
Here you go: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

Seems like lockdown mode was enabled. It is used to prevent targeted cyber attacks. It may have detected that the WiFi network seemed unreliable. To turn off lockdown mode go to settings , privacy and security , lockdown mode ( at the bottom of the page )
Best Of Luck!
yeah but what is the reason? The router I had before did not have that warning.
That’s not important but I’ve been hacked way back, on my PC though. So if there’s a setting that will make me feel less paranoid I will enable it.
It means what it says.
The bigger question is why in the world are you using lockdown mode?
If you’re not a high profile political dissident in a repressive country, it’s almost certainly not needed.
