How to keep badminton scoring app on Apple Watch always open during workout?

I have been using a badminton scoring app (“Badminton Recorder”, a Watch-only app that has no companion app for iPhone) on my Apple Watches for several years. When I play, I also have the watch’s built-in Workout app running to track my badminton workout. Since during a match it is more important to keep track of the score instead of seeing how many calories I’ve burned at a glance, I would prefer that whenever I lift my wrist, the scoring app immediately appears without me having to double-click the crown to go to recently opened apps.

My previous watch was a Series 6, which has always been kept up-to-date with the latest WatchOS almost as soon as updates come out. Ever since I first downloaded the “Badminton Recorder” app a few years ago, it has always worked during matches as I intended—after launching it, it would show up immediately when I lifted my wrist, so I could simply tap the screen to keep score. I never had to fiddle with any settings for the app to behave that way. This was true even after I upgraded to the latest WatchOS 11.3.1 last week.

Three days ago I upgraded to a Series 10 watch. I followed the prompts on my iPhone to restore from my latest Watch backup, which didn’t automatically download “Badminton Recorder” for me, so I had to do it manually on my watch. For these past three days, however, the app’s behavior has been inconsistent: right after installation, it would go back to the watch face whenever I lowered my wrist and lifted it back up, even though I already went into Settings->General->Return to Clock, and set the app to Custom->After 1 hour. After rebooting the watch, it then behaved as it used to (scoring app immediately shows up when I lift my wrist). Throughout all of this, I always had Workout running as well. Today the behavior has changed again: when I lift up my wrist, now the watch always immediately shows the workout metrics, although I have not changed any of the settings on my watch between yesterday and today. I’ve tried rebooting both my watch and my phone multiple times today, but each time the watch still shows the workout metrics instead of the scoring app, and I have to double-click the crown to switch to the scoring app each time.

Currently, my Return to Clock settings are as follows: the default is Always; for “Badminton Recorder”, it’s Custom->After 1 hour; and for “Workout”, it’s Default, with Return to App switched off. However, the watch still returns to the workout metrics screen instead of the scoring app when I lift my wrist. I’ve rebooted both my phone and the watch multiple times today, to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
