How can I stop my child from bypassing Screen Time?

Hi

I have been trying for ages to get my daughter's screentime limits to work and I'm at my wit's end.

The limits are set, but she can just ignore them. She can also ignore the downtime.

I've changed the screentime password to something that I know she doesn't know - but it keeps changing back to an earlier password.

I have changed my login details for my phone, my laptop, and my iCloud so she does not know any of these.

Any ideas?

thanks!

The screen time is forever my nightmare! Every time a new iOS gets installed, there are glitches, glitches and more glitches. I have deleted the screen time, reset/force quit my phone and my son's phone, set up a new screen time. I spent hours on YouTube and online trying to find a solution. Every time, the glitch seems to be a bit different, but this time (iOS18),my son can just restart the phone and voila! all the games are shining for him! None of the app limits seem to work. After resetting, sometimes the "Time is up" comes up quickly, but sometimes not, and he manages to play hours of games or social media. In the past, sometimes the "ignore limit" showed up, or "one more minute" was more than a minute, etc.

Anyway, I'm writing here because I found a temporary solution to this.

I can set the APP age limit down or choose NO APPS and all the apps (except for the essential ones) disappear. When I change the age limit back up, the apps come back.

So, it's one more extra step for us parents, but you can do:

Content & Privacy Restrictions-->App Store, Media, Web, & Games-->Apps-->choose the age or "Don't allow"

Age 4+ seems to be a good choice as it will still have educational apps (that he may use at school), wallet, maps, etc but not some games and social media.

Personally, I always take his phone away at night to charge somewhere else in the house. I also have to put it on airplane mode so that he cannot keep on texting on his apple watch.

Nonetheless, I hope Apple fixes the problem soon, so that I don't have to spend so much time on changing screen time settings.

Hope this helps!
