if you’re using apps like YouTube Premium, Spotify, or any music app with background play settings, they might override iPhone behavior.

As an example, if YouTube Premium's "Play in Background" feature is enabled, it could be the culprit for music continues to play from the phone's speaker even when a call comes in and you expect the audio to switch to the Bluetooth headset.

Here's why and what to do:

  • How "Play in Background" Works: This feature is designed to let YouTube videos (including music) continue playing even when you switch to another app or lock your phone. It essentially bypasses the normal audio management that occurs when you're actively using another app (like the Phone app during a call).
  • The Conflict: When a call comes in, your phone tries to route the audio to the Bluetooth headset. However, if YouTube is already playing audio in the background, it might "grab" the audio output and continue playing through the phone's speaker, overriding the call's audio routing.

The Solution:

  1. Temporarily Disable "Play in Background": The quickest way to test if this is the issue is to temporarily turn off "Play in Background" in the YouTube app's settings. Go to the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, then "Settings," and find "Background & downloads" or a similar option related to background playback. Toggle "Play in Background" off.
  2. Test: Make a test call while still connected to your Bluetooth headphones. If the music now pauses or switches to the headset as expected, you've found the cause.
  3. Consider Alternatives: If you like using "Play in Background," you have a couple of options:
    1. Pause YouTube before calls: Get into the habit of manually pausing YouTube playback before answering a call.
    2. Use a different music app for calls: If the issue only happens with YouTube, consider using a different music app (like Apple Music, Spotify, etc.) for listening to music when you anticipate receiving calls. These apps are generally better integrated with the phone's call management system.

See the pics below. The pic below indicates that you have an app similar to YT Premium and enabled Background Play Aways ON.
