Since syncing uses the battery, and since lots of people are very anxious about battery drain, an iPhone and a Mac will avoid syncing when not plugged in. And since syncing uses processing power, and people hate slow-downs, the iPhone and the Mac will avoid syncing while you use them. And since syncing requires bandwidth, the devices will avoid syncing when the internet connection is weak.

So, when I'm using my devices, and I want a fast transfer, I use AirDrop. Takes 3 seconds.
