Is Photos app importing or duplicating photos on MacBook Air?

I really like the apple photos app on Mac air, but it seems I am importing all images am I importing them or just using op more disc space by creating duplicates.

I believe if apple photos app was a paid for app it would really be taken much more seriously by photographic enthusiast as much as the over hyped Light room stuff.

If you import photos and videos from files stored on your internal drive using the default settings, Photos does copy them into the Photos library. You are then free to keep or remove the original copy, whichever makes you comfortable. (I keep a copy indefinitely on one or more external drives as backup copies. I also keep a copy on the internal drive for a while in case I need to redo the import.)
