2019 Mac won’t update

Hi,

My Mac will not update (info in pics below). It gets as far as the “30 minutes remaining” part and then that’s it.

This computer has become almost unusable as it is so slow regardless if I’m clicking on something such as system preferences, opening photos, mail, etc or a link online. Sometimes it can take more than a few minutes. Could that be why it’s not updating? Grateful for any advice!

(Sorry about the size of the photos. I imported from photos per usual.)
