I just took a number of photos with my iPhone 16 Pro, then airdropped them to my M1 Macbook Pro running Sequoia 15.3.1. I tried to open them in Preview, but I was given the following error.
Why does macOS think that a photo taken by me on my device is a malware risk? How can I get preview to reliably open HEIC files.
Not sure why but try control-click and choose Open from the contextual menu. This should warn you but include a button to Open the file.
This appears to be the same issue as : Mac won't open csv - Apple Community
Solution is to right-click on file, Get Info. Then change the opening app to "Preview". Then click "Change All..."
The "Open With..." context menu option with "Always Open With" appears to cause the OS to try to open the file as an app instead of a file.
This is extremely annoying, Apple.
