Launchpad Icons get stuck on screen

This was happening on my old PowerMac that was running MacOS 12.7.6 (Monterey). I've since bought a BRAND NEW M4 Mac Mini that is now running MacOS 15.2 (Sequoia) and guess what? IT STILL DOES IT!!!

When I go to Launchpad and if I just happen to nudge the mouse while clicking on an App icon in Launchpad and the app launches, the large Icon from Launchpad stays on the screen overlaying everything. It then can't be removed without restarting.

HEY!!! This IS a bug!! What is it with you guys? It's been over TEN YEARS! Fix it already!!!!

Running the M4 Mac Mini since day of release with the Current Sequoia 15.3.1 via an HDMI connection to an External Display ( Headless computer right ? )

Running the older M2 Mac Mini also with Sequoia 15.3.1 and also via a HDMI to another separate Display

Unlike some others, I often use Launchpad on both machines

No issues on either machine nor do I experience " the large Icon from Launchpad stays on the screen overlaying everything. "

Standard Trouble Shooting from per-prepared copy and paste .

Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

Does the issue present in this mode ?

Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

Download the Application Etrecheck  ( External Link ) directly from the Developer.

The Application is Not a " Silver Bullet "  and is  only a tool to examine the Hardware / Software used on this computer

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer Hardware / Software used on this computer

Sorry, I have no idea how to fix that. I could not reproduce the problem, so it may be something local.

I have to say I never used Launchpad except to test in response to questions here.

I can only suggest you avoid Launchpad. It was introduced as an imitation to how you launch apps in iPhone, but it is completely unnecessary on a mac. It's much easier to use Spotlight: press command-space and type two or three letters of the name, and press enter. Or use the Dock, or Finder. Those methods have existed on the Mac for over two decades, Launchpad was introduced much later.

It does not happen every time. Very intermittent. Making it very hard to reliably reproduce. I use Launchpad for every app launch so it’s more likely to show up. If you want to reproduce the problem only use Launchpad and you will eventually see it.

The new Mac Mini has nothing added to it yet. I haven’t transitioned from the older machine to the Mac Mini. Obviously it’s Launchpad and I am not the only user seeing this.
