How Can I delete Users that are not in the Users & Groups list in Sequoia?

HI,

Just upgraded my Macmin8,1 to Sequoia. I had had a number of Users in my Sonoma Users and Groups list, but now they do not appear in the list in Sequoia. I can log in to them, and they do appear in Fast User Switching if I turn it on and log in, but I want to Delete a number of them.

I'd like to remove a 3 of them of them, but can't figure out how to do it? I tried a reboot in Safe Mode, but no help doing that. The internet search stated I need to reinstall! I do not want to do that. I just went through a lot of work to get back to where I was before, and new systemsare frightening!

Another quick question - I renamed my computer which will show up in this e-mail as 14Abel, to 15Abel, but I can't figure out wher to change the name. I edited localhost name but that did not do the trick.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, and so long for now, Tom

Shutting sown and restarting more than once is always advised to sort initial issues.

Are you sure you are logged into the correct account(?)

>Log out

Further you can see a list of registered users from the Terminal.app if in doubt about your Users & Groups, copy and paste:

dscl . list /Users | grep -v '_'

ex. barebones account— one admin, no second user account, no guest accounts

MacBook-Pro ~ % dscl . list /Users | grep -v '_'

daemon

YourUserName should Be Here in the List

nobody

root

MacBook-Pro ~ %

Hi,

I tried understanding the list I called up in Terminal, (names changed to protect the innocent ;-))

Last login: Mon Feb 24 14:47:35 on console

jb@15Abel ~ % dscl . list /Users | grep -v '_'

2025 - known-NOT SHOWING IN THE U&G LIST - need to try to BOOT THIS ONE

daemon - UNKNOWN ???

nobody - UNKNOWN ???

ppmb - sharing user

root - as expected

LB - known NOT SHOWING IN THE U&G LIST

test - NOT SHOWING IN THE U&G LIST - BUT BOOTS OK

jb - main admin user as expected

jb@15Abel ~ %

Also, you can see that Terminal thinks the computer is 15Abel, but the macmini at the top stack of the sidebar says 14Abel. I will use your links and try to correct that.

these are all default System access... you are not going to change that.

daemon

nobody

root

Thanks for cluing me in on the System defaults. I was aware of only "root". daemon & nobody sound like TROUBLE!

I just want to free up some disk space, and IMO it should not be so daunting. Things worked so well for so long with Mac OS X, and now the changes are coming hard and fast, and are very annoying, and very hard to solve.

I just want to remove some obsoleted Users that do not even show up in the Users & Groups list.

This is such a nag.

Thanks for trying to help, and so long for now, Tom
