Re-use Motion templates inside Motion?

Is there a way to re-use Motion templates from within Motion? My idea is to generate a complex repetitive 3D design from a drop zone flat picture.

I know Motion can publish generators or titles etc to FCP. But I don’t need FCP yet.

Is this close to what you're going for?? This is something I never tried before, but seems to work somewhat:

This doesn't require importing other templates. It uses the People.mov file in Content to create 23 silhouettes. The frame and the backing are part of the same group containing People.mov and the group is Cloned and Replicated to create the repeating frames and the separate silhouettes all in "one go".

The People.mov is interesting, but it displays hollow masks, and I didn't find a way to replace or fill them with my own shots. I tried changing the parameter Image/Drop zone from Off to Drop zone. The effect was not what I expected.

Nevertheless, here is what I am trying to do. I managed to kind off quickly reuse the 2 replicators I use in my own Layers by dropping pictures in their drop zones. Of course I had to manually re-size, re-crop, re-key, re-color. Copying effects to each new instance helps a lot. I suppose I am quite happy so far. Here is the 45deg perpective result:

Not recommended... but (somewhat) possible depending on what kind of templates you're talking about.

What kind of templates are you considering "importing" into your Motion project(s)?

Hmm... That's encouraging. Here is what I try to do:

The template I have in mind would be some kind of a generator creating a 3D custom design taking a 2D silhouette input picture. The design would simulates a 2-sided 3D silhouette separated by a fixed small distance, reminding somehow a cardboard sheet whose both sides have the same glued picture. Each side has of course different colour or other filters.

For example, creating a crowd of 15-20 different 3D cardboard silhouettes of standing persons scattered on the same floor.

For now I successfully managed to emulate the thickness of a single 3D silhouette by using a replicator on each face of the 2D silhouette with the following controls: Shape>Line, Z start point 2 px, Points 5. That creates some kind of a 10 px thick "sandwich" of 5 silhouettes. Same thing with the other face, total thickness of the 3D cardboard silhouette: 20 px.

The trouble is… I have to repeat all this for each and every silhouette. The project pane starts to be clogged and difficult to handle, hence my question.
