Mac mini Pro Dock hanging the system

In a previous post, I reported an issue with my new Mac mini Pro M4, which exhibited erratic behavior during boot-up, including unresponsive programs and system slowdown.

After investigating the problem, I discovered a potential solution that addresses some of the symptoms. The system was experiencing slow boot-up times and the dock was malfunctioning. This made it challenging to open and close programs effectively.

To resolve this issue, I opened Activity Monitor and observed that the Dock was consuming a significant amount of CPU resources, approximately 50%. To mitigate this, I forced the Dock to close, which promptly reopened and restored normal system performance.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Also, I posted my system hanging and restarting. That I have now confirmed was due to a cheep USB C device. Now when buying USB devices for any reason I have learned that I must check to see if if they are compatible with Mac and Thunderbolt ports. Most are not, and the ones that are cost $$$.

I thought you meant an external dock but I see you mean the Apple dock of icons. You probalbly have many apps open at once which is why you are consuming much CPU. You should close all applications before shutting down and be sure not to check the box that states open all when restarting.

You can also use Terminal and type killall dock. The dock will shut down then restart to clear.

The Dock is a bar of icons on a Mac that provides quick access to frequently used apps and documents. I think there is a software conflict with either Google Chrome or Big Fish Game App, or something else. But if I do not close all applications before shutting down when I boot up the next day the Dock app is hanging. I can see it in Activity Monitor taking up high CPU usage and staying at the top of this list. When I force it to quit, the system returns to normal.
