MacBook Calendar 13.0 events overlapping instead of side by side

MacBook Pro, Calendar 13.0 in weekly view my events are shown overlapping instead of being displayed side by side. When they have the same start time they display side by side. When start times are different, one is displayed inside the other which is difficult to see if they are the same color. Is there a way to change this.
