My Apple Watch won’t pair to my iphone

I’m trying to connect my Apple Watch to my iPhone for the first time and it’s goes fine until the updating step to complete the Apple Watch set up. A pop up comes and says that an update couldn’t be found due to my iPhone not being connected to the internet
