Live cast a demo from iPhone to Apple TV

I’m going to be teaching a painting workshop and want to use my iPhone or iPad as a camera that will cast what I am doing to a nearby Apple TV so students can follow along. I know how to mirror, but using the camera shows all of the on screen controls that also appear on the phone creating a cluttered view. Is there another way to achieve this without all the screen controls showing? Thanks.
